San Diego City Council Refuses to Pay Mayor’s Legal Bills

Scott J. Ferrell/Congressional Quarterly/Getty Images(SAN DIEGO) — In the wake of an eighth woman accusing San Diego Mayor Bob Filner of sexual harassment, members of the city council voted Tuesday to not pay his legal bills in connection with a harassment lawsuit filed by one of his aides.
The vote came hours after the council voted to sue Filner for all damages and fees related to the lawsuit if San Diego is found liable for his actions.
The move is separate from the mayor’s request that the city pay his attorney’s fees.
Seven of nine council members, along with the local Democratic party, have already called on Filner to resign.
Filner, a Democrat, has refused to resign and announced last week that he would undergo two weeks of behavioral therapy treatment, starting this Monday.
