Scherzer Improves to 13-0 as Tigers Top Blue Jays
Published at(TORONTO) — It was just another night on the diamond for Max Scherzer.
Scherzer worked into the seventh inning, becoming the first pitcher in 27 years to start the season with a 13-0 record as the Detroit Tigers topped the Toronto Blue Jays 6-2 on Wednesday night.
Alex Avila and Victor Martinez homered for the Tigers, who beat the Blue Jays for the eighth time in 10 meetings.
Scherzer allowed two runs and seven hits, struck out eight and walked one in 6 1/3 innings.
“It might not have been vintage Max but he was really good,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
The Blue Jays have now dropped seven of their past games following their 11-game winning streak.
