Howard was deciding between the Rockets, Lakers, Mavericks, Hawks, and Warriors, but ultimately chose to sign with Houston. O’Neal, who was speaking at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, felt the need to voice his opinion on Howard.

“It was expected,” O’Neal said. “We’ve all been in L.A., not a whole lot of people can handle being under the bright lights. Everybody wants to do it, but when you get there, there are certain pressures. I think it was a safe move for him to go to a little town like Houston. That’s right, little town. I said it.”

Howard spent just one season in Los Angeles and it did not go as planned. The team was expected to contend for a championship, but instead they crawled to the 8th seed in the Western Conference and were swept out of first round at the hand of the San Antonio Spurs.

Even though Howard has a tough season in LA, he still managed to lead the NBA in rebounding.
