Snark Attack: Celebrities Bit by Syfy’s “Sharknado”
(NEW YORK) -- SyFy highlighted the deadly meteorological phenomenon known as the Sharknado Thursday night, with a film of the same name.
As its title suggests, the movie from the makers of Dinoshark and Sharktopus depicted the terror that could only happen when killer twisters are made all the more deadly because they're chock-full of man eaters.
In the movie, Tara Reid and Beverly Hills 90210 vet Ian Ziering do battle with the shark-filled tornadoes when they strike Santa Monica, Calif. While the film itself won't ever be Oscar material, it set off a snarknado in Hollywood as celebs tuned in.
Here is just a nibble of the Sharknado-induced snark that burned up the Twitter hashtag #Sharknado as the show aired:
Actress Mia Farrow -- @MiaFarrow: We're watching #sharknado.
Actor Patton Oswalt -- @pattonoswalt: Based on the Twitter attention it got, SHARKNADO is our Arab Spring.
The Shield actor Michael Chiklis -- @MichaelChiklis: "Oh Go*damn it, now I want to see it too and then I'm gonna want to quit the business...again!
Star Trek: The Next Generation star Wil Wheaton -- @wilw: "We lost the night to #SharkNado? What the hell is that?" - every non-syfy network executive tomorrow morning.
30 Rock star Judah Friedlander -- @JudahWorldChamp: "Dear @Syfy showing commercials & interrupting during #Sharknado is a crime against art. Please respect your own product.
Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof -- @DamonLindelof: "I am going to write the Sharknado sequel and I am going to do it before Sharknado is over."
Writer Kelly Oxford -- @kellyoxford: Finally, a natural disaster that makes Aquaman useful.
Former SNL star Horatio Sanz -- @MrHoratioSanz: "I wish I could join in on the shenanigans, But I had a cousin that was killed by a #Sharknado back in '93. #RamonRIP"
