(DETROIT) — The Detroit Tigers acquired right-handed reliever Jose Veras on Monday from the Houston Astros for minor league outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later.
In 42 games this season, the 32-year-old Veras is 0-4 with a 2.93 ERA and 19 saves. He has struck out 44 batters in 43 innings of work.
“We are pleased to add an experienced arm to our bullpen,” said Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski in a statement. “Jose can pitch in a variety of roles, provides depth in the bullpen, and complements the roles of Joaquin Benoit and Drew Smyly.”
In 96 games with Class-A West Michigan this season, 19-year-old Vasquez is batting .281 with five home runs and 39 RBIs.
