(FORT HALL, ID) – Members of the Shoshone-Bannock tribes are voicing their support for changing Teton High School’s mascot.  During a meeting with school administrators earlier this week, tribal officials said the Redskin mascot is a racist mockery of their culture and disrespectful to all American Indians. They also suggested that the district put up a commemorative plaque honoring the native peoples that once lived in the Teton Valley. Some favored teachers and students going through educational courses sensitive to Indian culture. The district will take public comments on the mascot change at a meeting July 8.
