Vandalism Prompts Closure of Lincoln Memorial
Published at(WASHINGTON) — One of Washington, D.C.’s most popular landmarks, the Lincoln Memorial, was vandalized early Friday morning.
ABC News affiliate WJLA-TV reports U.S. Park Police were alerted to the incident around 1:30 a.m. Green paint was found splattered on the base of the statue.
Police are checking surveillance video to find out who may have been involved.
The memorial, which is open around the clock to visitors, has been closed pending the removal of the paint by the National Park Service.
