The 39-year-old Jeter was sidelined since last October, recovering from a fractured ankle he suffered during the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.

In his first at-bat, the 13-time All-Star reached on an infield single off of Royals starting pitcher Ervin Santana. He would later collect his first RBI in the sixth when Luis Cruz scored on a groundout.

Jeter was removed for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning with a tight right quadriceps. He will undergo an MRI.
