The actress, 27, was placed under a psychiatric hold last month after witnesses saw her next to a small fire in a residential neighborhood. Since then, the hold has been extended to 30 days thanks to doctors who are monitoring her progress at a psychiatric hospital.

As a result, Judge Glen M. Reiser, who is presiding over the conservatorship case, agreed with her physician’s claim that Bynes lacks the “capacity to give consent for medical care” and granted the actress’ mother a temporary conservatorship that will last until Sept. 30.

The former child star’s court-appointed attorney, Mary Shea, said that her client, who was expected in court but did not show, opposes the conservatorship. “She doesn’t feel there’s a need,” Shea said. To that end, the judge stated that he does still “want to have a dialogue” with her.

Lynn Bynes, who attended the hearing with her husband Rick, will have the authority to make basic decisions on her daughter’s behalf, including where she will live. She will also manage the actress’ estimated $3 million fortune.
