(NEW YORK) — The Toronto Blue Jays are dropping like flies. The latest injury comes to outfielder Jose Bautista, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a hip injury.
The slugger is dealing with a bone bruise in his left hip that forced him out of action during the team’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
Bautista had actually been dealing with a hip issue for the past few weeks after running from third base to home plate.
“I am about 70 percent,” Bautista said. “I don’t think I’m doing the team any favors playing with it right now.”
This is a tough blow to an already struggling Blue Jays club. The entire Blue Jays starting outfield is now on the disabled list. Bautista joins Melky Cabrera and Colby Rasmus on the disabled list.
Despite the loss of their outfielders, the Blue Jays still rank sixth in the American League in runs scored. Unfortunately, they’re 16 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings.
