Wilson has been out more than 16 months while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery.

“He hasn’t pitched in a long time,” Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly said. “But there are things we know. We know he’s not afraid, we know he’s been there before.”

Wilson, a three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, has 171 career saves, all of them collected during his seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers signed Wilson in July to serve as a setup man for closer Kenley Jansen.

Wilson made four minor-league rehab appearances for the Dodgers, allowing no runs in 4 1/3 innings, before being called up.

To make room for Wilson, the Dodgers optioned outfielder Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.
