California City to File Lawsuit Against Chevron

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(SAN FRANCISCO) — Chevron is expected to be hit with a lawsuit on Friday by the San Francisco bay area city of Richmond.
The lawsuit stems from an incident that took place nearly a year ago at the oil giant’s refinery in Richmond. A corroded pipe there ruptured, causing an explosion and fire that sent close to 15,000 people to nearby hospitals because of the pollutants in the air.
Many of those patients reported having breathing problems and filed individual claims against Chevron.
The city of Richmond claims Chevron is unwilling to pay up. The oil company, for its part, said in a statement that the lawsuit is a waste of city resources.
