CD Players in Cars Becoming Obsolete?

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Compact disk players on car dashboards are in danger of becoming extinct.
Studies by J.D. Power and Associates show that a declining number of motorists are listening to CDs in cars as the use of streaming radio, iPods and smartphones has been growing.
Cadillac, Chevrolet, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Tesla Model S are among the brands that are doing away with CD players. And as cars and trucks are redesigned, the trend is likely to grow.
In some new models, CD devices are an option and can be found in the central armrest or glove compartment. But “in the 2014 Kia Soul and 2013 Chevrolet Spark, you can’t buy a CD player in any trim,” reports Cars.com.
