Chargers’ Wide Receiver Danario Alexander Suffers Torn ACL
Published at(NEW YORK) — The injuries are mounting around NFL training camps, and the San Diego Chargers are no exception as wide receiver Danario Alexander will miss the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL.
This is a tough blow to the Chargers’ receiving core. Alexander was acquired midway through last season and became one of the best receivers in the NFL over that span. In just nine games, Alexander caught 37 passes for 658 yards as well as seven touchdowns.
Alexander had spent the previous two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, and put up modest numbers. In two seasons with the Rams, he caught 46 passes for 737 yards with three touchdowns.
Durability has always been a concern for the 24-year-old Alexander. He played in 18 out of a possible 32 games while with the Rams due to various knee and hamstring issues. While in St. Louis, he had multiple operations, even dating back to his college days while playing at Missouri.
Vincent Brown will likely fill in for the injured Alexander. The Chargers’ depth at wide receiver has taken hits over the past few years, but along with Brown, Robert Meachem and Keenan Allen will also move up in the depth chart to help fill the void left by Alexander.
