Darvish K’s Career-High 15 as Rangers Top Astros
(HOUSTON) -- Yu Darvish didn't allow a hit until the eighth inning and struck out a career-high 15, leading the Texas Rangers past the Houston Astros 2-1 on Monday.
Darvish went eight innings allowing one hit and one walk as the Rangers won their eighth straight.
His no-hit bid was broken up with one out in the eighth when Astros catcher Carlos Corporan stroked the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall. But that was all Houston could muster up as Darvish retired the next two batters and Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the victory for Texas.
It was the second game this season Darvish almost threw a no-hitter against Houston. During his first start of the season, Darvish had a perfect game going with two outs in the ninth inning when Marwin Gonzalez knocked a single between Darvish's legs.
The Rangers (69-50) maintain their one-game lead over Oakland for first in the AL West.
