The team placed third baseman David Wright on the disabled list Saturday with a strained hamstring.  The 30-year-old Wright had been experiencing discomfort in his hamstring for the past week, and was forced to leave Friday night’s win over the Kansas City Royals after running out a single in the 10th inning.

Wright underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, which revealed the strain.

“There are certain guys you almost can’t afford to lose,” manager Terry Collins said. “He would fit that category for us.”

Wright is hitting .309 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs for the Mets this season.
