Detroit entered the final frame trailing by three runs when Victor Martinez drove home Austin Jackson, followed by Hunter’s 16th homer of the season.

Miguel Cabrera had to leave the game after hurting his abdomen while sliding into second base in the fifth inning. He’s listed as day-to-day with discomfort.

Max Scherzer started on the mound for the Tigers, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work.  Meanwhile, Oakland’s Bartolo Colon making his first start since Aug. 13 because of a groin injury, tossed five innings of one run ball.
