Kahne passed Jeff Gordon for the lead off the final restart with two laps remaining to win the GoBowling.com 400 Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

It was the 16th victory of Kahne’s career and his second at Pocono Raceway.  “Great race,” Kahne said afterwards.  “Kenny (Francis) called an awesome race. We needed this one to get in the Chase.”

Kahne dominated the first half of the race before a late caution bunched many of the top drivers together.  Gordon took the lead and was well on his way to winning his first race of the season, but Kahne charged back after the final restart to take the checkered flag.

Gordon finished second on his 42nd birthday, while Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five.

A dejected Gordon spoke about losing a late lead.

“We had them. We certainly had the position,” he said. “I’m pretty disappointed I let him get inside of me on (turn) one.”

NASCAR Sprint Cup series action shifts to Watkins Glen next week.
