Lions Clobber Patriots 40-9 in Preseason Clash
Published at(DETROIT) — The Detroit Lions were clicking on all cylinders Thursday, forcing four first-half turnovers on their way to a 40-9 preseason victory over the New England Patriots.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady completed 16 passes for 185 yards, but threw his first interception of the preseason in the first quarter.
“That’s a Hall of Fame quarterback, and we flustered him a little bit,” Detroit wide receiver Nate Burleson said about Brady.
Matthew Stafford finished the game with 166 passing yards and a touchdown. Running back Reggie Bush caught five passes for 103 yards. Calvin Johnson was held out of the game as a precaution.
“We were down a big playmaker in our offense tonight and our defense knew that, showed up and played great,” Stafford said. “It’s about the team, man.”
Tim Tebow suited up for the Patriots but did not play.
