Brown was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer last month.  The school suspended him indefinitely at the time of the incident before deciding on a punishment Friday.

“We support the University of Maryland’s decision,” coach Randy Edsall said in a statement. “I have spoken with Wes. He accepts the sanctions and understands what is expected of him moving forward.”

The charges against Brown were dropped last week because prosecutors believe he was resisting an unlawful arrest, which is something he is allowed to do.

Brown was the second-leading rusher last year for the Terrapins, who are leaving the ACC for the Big Ten in 2014. Brandon Ross and Albert Reid are expected to carry the load at running back while Brown serves his suspension.
