“Really excited and thankful for the @buffalobills for giving me this opportunity, “Leinart tweeted. “Been working hard for 8 straight months. Time to go!!”

The Bills were in need of a quarterback after Kevin Kolb suffered what ESPN is reporting as a serious concussion, and rookie quarterback EJ Manuel was lost for the preseason with a knee injury.

Leinart, a first round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2006, will be playing for his third team in three seasons.

For his career, Leinart has played in 33 NFL games, completing 57.1 percent of his passes for 4,065 yards, 15 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

The Bills also made a trade, sending linebacker Chris White to the Lions for quarterback Thad Lewis.
