Minor League Pitcher Tosses No-Hitter
(COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.) -- Right-handed starting pitcher Brad Allen tossed a no-hitter as the South Bend Silver Hawks blanked the West Michigan Whitecaps Saturday night, 2-0 in the Class A Midwest League.
Allen, in his first season in the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league system, struck out nine and walked one as he sent down 27 of the 28 batters he faced.
The 24-year-old Allen was out of baseball last year until he was signed by the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League on Aug. 8. He was invited to spring training this year by the D-Backs, who assigned him to the Midwest League in May.
Allen improves to 7-6 on the season with an ERA of 4.67. Over the last 60 2-3 innings, he has complied an ERA of 3.71.
It’s South Bend’s second no-hitter of the season.
