Published at(POCATELLO, ID) – A Pocatello airman murdered by the Nazis in World War II is now listed on a memorial in Austria. William James McCurdy was shot and killed while trying to surrender to Axis forces in November of 1944, after his B-17 bomber was shot down. McCurdy and six surviving crew members are the subject of a book published last year entitled “From Memory to Remembrance.” McCurdy’s nephew Bill, an Idaho State University philosophy teacher, plans to visit the memorial in the Drau Valley in the near future.
