Oklahoma Names Trevor Knight Starting QB
Published at(NORMAN, Okla.) — Trevor Knight has been named the starting quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners, head coach Bob Stoops announced Thursday.
The redshirt freshman beat out junior Blake Bell and will make his collegiate debut on August 31 against Louisiana-Monroe.
Bell was expected to replace Landry Jones as the starting quarterback, after rushing for 24 touchdowns in his first two seasons at Oklahoma.
Knight impressed the coaching staff with a strong training camp and was able to win the job.
“I can go out and play and not be all timid,” Knight said when asked what OU’s coaching staff could learn about him that they didn’t already know. “I was a little tentative during the spring, just getting into it, learning a bit. I just need to go out, have fun and play.”
