(PHILADELPHIA) — Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has been fired.
“I’ve had some the greatest times I’ve ever had in my life,” Manuel said on Friday. “Philadelphia has been the highlight of my career.”
Manuel leaves as the franchise’s winningest manager after coming to the club in 2005. He also led the Phillies to a World Series title in 2008. Manuel has a record of 1,000-826 during his 11 seasons as manager with the Phillies and Indians.
“I love everything about the fans, I love the city. I’ve talked Philly baseball everywhere I go and I want everything to go out on a very positive attitude and note,” Manuel added.
Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg will take over as the manager.
