Binghamton University in New York will host the president on Friday, following stops in Syracuse and Buffalo.

After the event in Binghamton, President Obama will speak at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa., joined by Scranton native Vice President Joe Biden.

The two-day, four-stop bus tour is part of the president’s efforts to focus on the middle class and to draw congressional Republican attention to his priorities.

“The president’s going to be talking about his view that we need to rein in the skyrocketing cost of a college education; that never has a college education been more critical to the economic success of middle-class families in this country,” said Josh Earnest, deputy White House press secretary.

“And if we’re going to make sure that middle-class families continue to have access to economic opportunity, that means that more students are going to need to have access to a high-quality college education,” Earnest said.

President Obama’s tour comes just weeks after he signed into law a measure for restoring lower student loan interest rates.
