(ANAHEIM) — The Los Angeles Angels officially announced Monday that star slugger Albert Pujols’ season is over.
Pujols hasn’t played since July 26, when he suffered a partial tear of the left plantar fascia after hitting a two-run single off Oakland’s Grant Balfour.
After the injury, Pujols and the team had hopes that the he could return before season’s end. But with the Angels 15 games out of a playoff berth, there is probably no reason to rush him back.
Pujols had played with the injury for most of the year before the tear forced him to the disabled list. The three-time NL MVP played in 99 games this season, hitting a career-low .258 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs.
The 33-year-old Pujols is in the second season of a $240 million, 10-year contract.
