Report: Dr. Luke Not Joining “American Idol” After All
Published at(LOS ANGELES) — Songwriter and producer Dr. Luke will not be joining American Idol as a judge this coming season, despite reports to the contrary on Monday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a deal to join American Idol hit a snag due to a Dr. Luke’s previous contract with Sony Music. Sony’s competitor, Universal Music Group, holds exclusive rights to American Idol recordings.
Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, has penned hits for the likes of Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Pink and Britney Spears. He started his career as lead guitarist for the Saturday Night Live house band.
The Hollywood Reporter also said that Gottwald determined the time commitment would hinder his ability to develop his record label, Kemosabe.
American Idol is expected to begin its 13th season soon, as auditions have typically started in September.
