Retail Earnings Give Stocks a Boost
Published at(NEW YORK) — Stocks closed higher on encouraging earnings reports from a few retailers.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average spent much of the session in the plus column but closed down 7.75 points at 15,002.99.
The Nasdaq Composite climbed 24.5 points to close at 3,613.59. The S&P 500 rose 6.29 points, finishing the session at 1,652.35.
Best Buy and Urban Outfitters shares rose sharply with earnings reports for both retail chains beating expectations.
Home Depot has hit a home run over the last few months. The home improvment chain’s second quarter sales jumped nearly 18 percent compared to last year.
