(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) — Quarterback Mark Sanchez hurt his right shoulder as the New York Jets defeated their in-stadium rivals, the New York Giants in overtime Saturday night, 24-21 in Week 3 of pre-season action.
Sanchez suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter when he was hit by Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin seconds after connecting with wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi on a 23-yard pass. He finished the game 5 of 6 for 72 yards and a fumble.
Rookie quarterback Geno Smith opened the game for the Jets and went 16 of 30 for 199 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
The Jets won the contest on a Billy Cundiff 32-yard field goal at 8:04 into overtime.
