Shelley Residents Fighting Anti-Chicken Coop Ordinance
( SHELLEY , ID ) – Some Shelley residents are in a dispute with the city over an ordinance that prohibits people in certain areas from raising chickens. The city allows people living in residential agricultural zones, with lots larger than one acre, to raise their own hens for food. However, single-family residential homes are still off limits. City officials say people raising chickens in small lots has been the cause of several complaints over the past few years. Opponents of the current law plan to take their complaints to the city council until changes are made.
