Tiger Woods Ties Career Best Score
Published at(AKRON, Ohio) — Tiger Woods shot a 9-under, 61 Friday at Firestone Country Club, tying his career-best score.
Woods’ bogey free second round leaves him at 13-under, giving him a seven-stroke lead going into the third round of WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Woods was looking to become the sixth player in PGA Tour history to shoot a 59. Instead he shot 61 for the fourth time of his career and has positioned himself well to win the Bridgestone Invitational for the eighth time.
After he birdied the first four holes on the back-nine, Woods looked prime to break the recored. But he parred his final five holes, leaving him just short.
“Am I disappointed…Definitely not,” Woods said of not shooting 59. “Sixty-one is pretty good. I’m not bummed.”
