(DETROIT) — Torii Hunter started the day on the bench, and finished it as the hero for the Detroit Tigers.
Hunter hit a pinch-hit game-winning single in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.
“I thought I had a day off, but when you come to the park, you enjoy the first couple innings. Once that fifth inning hits, you just go down to the tunnel and get yourself loose,” Hunter said. “That’s the way you’ve got to approach it.”
Hunter entered the game in the 10th inning with the game tied, and just two innings later he helped his team finish off a three-game sweep of their AL Central rivals.
Bruce Rondon (1-1) earned his first career victory. With the win, the Tigers have taken 12 of their past 13 games.
It’s a completely different story for the White Sox, who are losers of 10 straight.
