(NEW YORK) — The fantasy film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones opened Wednesday, earning an estimated $3 million in its first day of release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Two more movies arrive in theaters Friday. Here’s a closer look:
— You’re Next: In the horror flick, a family holds a reunion that’s interrupted by a bunch of masked murderers. Sharni Vinson, Nicholas Tucci, Wendy Glenn, A.J. Bowen and Joe Swanberg star. Rated R. [Click here to read a review]
— The World’s End: Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz pals Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are back with a new comedy. Their latest story focuses on a group of old friends who reunite for a bar crawl set in the midst of an alien invasion. Paddy Considine, The Hobbit’s Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, and Bond girl Rosamund Pike also star. Rated R.
And expanding into wide release:
— Blue Jasmine: In Woody Allen’s latest flick, Cate Blanchett plays a New York socialite whose marriage falls apart, leading her to move in with her sister in San Francisco. Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay and Sally Hawkins also star. Rated PG-13.
