Georgia was coming off a season-opening loss to Clemson, and could not afford another loss if they want to be considered national title contenders.

“Everybody kept playing hard,” Georgia head coach Mark Richt said.  “Murray made a couple of plays, we ran the ball much better.  The offensive line really did a beautiful job even on the last drive to be able to finish the game like that.  They could have scored a couple times if we didn’t finish the game so I’m just real proud of everybody.”

Todd Gurley provided a spark to Georgia’s offense, rushing for 136 yards and scoring two touchdowns.

Mike Davis led South Carolina (1-1, 0-1 SEC) with 149 rushing yards and a touchdown, but he was stuffed on on fourth-and-goal from inside the 1 to help Georgia preserve the lead.

The two teams combined for 990 total yards.
