(LOS ANGELES) — California lawmakers have taken final action on a bill to crack down on photographers who take pictures of children of public figures.

The bill, now going to the governor’s desk, would protect the children of actors, celebrities and public officials. Recently, actresses Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry testified in favor of the bill, saying they feared taking their own children in public because of swarms of paparazzi.

The bill was introduced by State Sen. Kevin de Leon and would make it a misdemeanor to attempt to record a child’s image in a harassing manner because of the employment of the child’s parent, says the Los Angeles Times.

While the bill was opposed by media groups, the Times reports that it was approved unanimously in the State Senate.
