The Braves knew they won the divison when the Nationals lost a 4-2 decision to the Marlins while their game was in the sixth inning, but the celebrations really picked up when Craig Kimbrel closed the door on the Cubs in the ninth for his 49th save of the season.

“What a great feeling,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “It really is a great feeling to realize we’ve played 150-some games to get to this point. We knew early on that the Nationals had lost but we still wanted to be able to celebrate and come out with a win. And we did.”

Freddie Freeman also hit a home run to help the Braves return to the postseason for the second straight year and third time in four seasons.  It’s their first division title since 2005.

“This is only one celebration of four, hopefully,” Freeman said.
