Goldson, who was fined last week for his hit on Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland, will attempt to appeal the suspension, according to ESPN.

“You had an unobstructed path to your opponent,” NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks wrote in a letter to Goldson telling him of the suspension. “It is clear that you lowered your head and unnecessarily rammed the left side of your helmet into the left side of your opponent’s head. You delivered a forceful blow with your helmet and made no attempt whatsoever to wrap up your opponent or make a conventional tackle on the play. This illegal contact clearly could have been avoided.”

Since 2010, Goldson has had 15 personal foul penalties called against him, the most in the NFL.

Goldson played his first six NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before signing a five-year, $41.25 million contract with Tampa this offseason.

The soon to be 29-year-old Goldson has 16 tackles this season.
