The two-story contemporary style home with a pool house in the upscale community of North Stamford was completely leveled by the blast, which was reported around 1:55 p.m., according to WABC.

The homeowner was in the backyard of the home at the time of the blast and is being treated for minor injuries, authorities said. No one is believed to have been inside the home at the time of the explosion.

Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia said a 500-gallon propane tank near the home was being eyed as a possible cause of the blast, However, the incident remains under investigation, he said.

The 6,000-square-foot house was purchased in 2006 for $1.1 million by Giuseppe Cardillo, according to the Stamford assessor’s office.

Buildings department officials were dispatched to the neighborhood after the blast to conduct precautionary evaluations of nearby homes, according to WABC-TV.
