His agent, Jordan Woy, said Tuesday that Spencer would need microfracture surgery on his knee.  Spencer also had surgery on the same knee July 25 and has only practiced a handful of times this season.  He managed to play a few snaps in a Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I have, like, soft cartilage on the inner side of my knee that’s causing [the pain],” Spencer said last week.  “It’s not stopping the banging of the bone. It’s going to take a little bit more time to heal, and we really don’t have time right now.”

The Cowboys gave Spencer the franchise tag this past offseason, costing the team $10.6 million.  He will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Spencer is expected to be 100 percent healthy by early next year, according to team physician Dan Cooper.
