Eagles Hold On to Top Redskins in Chip Kelly’s Debut

The Eagles stormed out to a 33-6 lead and then held off the Washington Redskins, 33-27 on Monday night.
Philadelphia rattled off 77 offensive plays, racking up 443 total yards and keeping Washington on its heels most of the night.
LeSean McCoy had 31 carries for 184 yards and a 34-yard touchdown scamper in the victory.
“This year was going to be one of his biggest years of his career,” Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said of McCoy. “As long as he’s part of this Philadelphia Eagles’ team and Chip Kelly is here he’s going to do some dynamic things.”
As for Vick, he completed 15-of-25 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for another 54 yards in the win.
The Eagles dominated the first half running 53 plays, the second-most of any team in the first half of an NFL game since 1991, and went into halftime with a 26-7 lead.
The Redskins didn’t give up, scoring 20 unanswered points to make the game 33-27 with 1:14 left.
Washington proceeded to go for an onside kick, but couldn’t recover allowing Philadelphia to run out the clock.
“I was just thinking here we go again,” Vick said when asked about the Redskins’ onside kick attempt. “It’s a tough game. Football is not easy. From the outside looking in people may think it’s an easy game. You can be up by 21 points with 10 minutes left and you can still lose the game.”
Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III completed 30-of-49 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game since knee surgery.
