East Idaho Schools Prepping for Disasters

(RIGBY, ID) – Idaho’s public schools aren’t required to have disaster plans in place, but that isn’t keeping many area schools from putting their own plans together. Sugar-Salem Junior High School Principal Kevin Schultz tells Local News 8 that his school still has a little residue from the Teton Dam Flood in 1976, and that they’re trying to be prepared for anything that might come their way. In the Jefferson County School District, emergency plans are updated every year. State education officials say districts have a lot of leeway for developing disaster plans to fit their unique needs.
