The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, was seen by 17.63 million viewers, the highest total for the ceremony since 2005.  Last year’s Emmys telecast, which aired on ABC, drew approximately 13.3 million viewers.

The Emmys audience might have been even higher were it not for Breaking Bad.  The second-to-last episode of the AMC hit, which won the Emmy for outstanding drama series, attracted 6.6 million viewers on Sunday night, according to Deadline.com.  That’s a record audience for the show.

On Showtime, the series finale of Dexter pulled in 2.8 million viewers for its initial airing and 3.3 million viewers for the night, including an encore presentation.
