Federer Ousted from the US Open
Published at(NEW YORK) — Roger Federer’s run at the US Open is done.
The seventh-seeded Federer lost in straight sets to 19-seeded Tommy Robredo 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows Monday.
It is the first time in a decade that Federer has lost in the fourth round at the US Open.
The 31-year-old Robredo, who was previously 0-10 in matches versus Federer, dominated from the start as he advances to the quarterfinals at the US Open for the first time.
Federer has now failed to make a final at any of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year, the first time that’s happened since 2002.
Robredo will take on fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
