The incident began Wednesday morning when two people were shot in an apparent domestic dispute in Miami-Dade County, according to initial reports.

Authorities pursued the suspect, who drove through grass and zoomed past semi trucks as he led police on a high-speed chase north on U.S. 27 into Broward County.

The pursuit came to an end when the suspect t-boned a car at an intersection, causing both vehicles to spin violently until they came to a standstill in a grassy area just off the highway.

As officers approached the SUV, the suspect opened fire, according to reports, prompting officers to back away from the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV committed suicide, sources told ABC News’ Miami affiliate WPLG. It was not immediately known how many people were in the second car and if they had suffered injuries.

A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department declined immediate comment on the situation.
