International Olympic Committee to Decide 2020 Host on Saturday

Photo by Harold Cunningham/Getty Images for BUNTE(BUENOS AIRES, Argentina) — The three cities vying for the 2020 Olympics made their final pitches on Saturday to the International Olympic Committee in Argentina.
Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo were in the running for the 2020 Summer Games. In the day’s first vote, Madrid was eliminated leaving Istanbul and Tokyo as the finalists.
Each city has obstacles to overcome in order to be awarded the Summer Games. Tokyo is still working to cleanup after the Fukushima nuclear plant explosion and Istanbul has been the site of numerous protests in recent weeks related to the Syria crisis.
The Turkish delegation, headed by President Tayyip Erdogan, is urging the IOC to award the games to a predominantly Muslim country for the first time.
