A family statement said he died of a suspected heart attack aboard the ship the Queen Elizabeth, where he had been delivering a speech.

With over 50 years in the business, the English journalist was a big name on both sides of the Atlantic.

The broadcaster’s reputation was sealed in 1977 when he interviewed former President Richard Nixon about Watergate, finally eliciting an apology.

His series of interviews with Nixon formed the basis of the academy award winning film, Frost Nixon.

In 2009 Frost was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Frost’s family has issued a statement saying it’s devastated and has appealed for privacy.
