The first 18,000 fans at Tuesday’s game were supposed to receive the dolls, but by the time the gates were scheduled to open, the dolls had yet to arrive. Initially, the team kept the gates closed, hoping to let fans in when the shipment finally showed up, but more than 30 minutes after the scheduled opening time and with thousands waiting outside the stadium, the team instead gave out vouchers that could be redeemed for the bobbleheads later, says the New York Daily News.

An announcement made in the third inning declared that the giveaways could be picked up until 30 minutes after the end of the game. The ensuing lines stretched from the right-field foul pole to third base on the main level, as well as up at least one concourse ramp, reports the Daily News. Some fans waited several innings to retrieve their doll.

A Yankees spokesman told the newspaper that the shipment of bobbleheads came from Seattle and traveled via train to Chicago. However, on the final leg of the trip, the truck transporting the dolls broke down in New Jersey, causing the delayed arrival.

Before the game had ended, the Daily News reported, some of the bobbleheads were available on eBay for over $250.
