Police say no alcohol was involved in the incident.

Burleson sustained the injury in the crash that happened on Interstate 696 around 2 a.m., officials said in published reports.

His agent, Ken Sarnoff, says that he was watching Monday Night Football with teammates, and crashed his SUV driving home. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Burleson broke his arm in two places.

“Wow thoughts and prayers with my fallen teammate Nate Burleson wishing him a speedy recovery! Hate having to learn about this from ESPN,” Lions running back Reggie Bush tweeted Tuesday morning.

The Lions issued a statement saying that Burleson will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

The 32-year old Burleson was having a productive season so far in 2013 as the team’s second wide receiver behind Calvin Johnson. Burleson caught 19 passes for 239 yards.

Second-year wide receiver Ryan Broyles is expected to see an increase in playing time due to Burleson’s injury.
