Published at(NEW YORK) — What’s your best 140-character pick-up line?
According to a recent study conducted by the British online retailer PIXmania, Twitter is now the preferred form of communication between prospective romantic partners. Twitter tops text messages and phone calls.
The survey also found that modern technology is speeding up the entire courting process. Couples aged 55 and older said it took, on average, 78 days before they referred to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. Respondents under 25 said it took just 24 days.
The “three-day rule” is apparently dead. According to the survey, 68 percent of people said they were happy to communicate with their new prospective romantic partner within four hours of a first date.
The survey also found that on average, it takes 224 tweets, 163 text messages, 70 Facebook messages, 37 emails and 30 phone calls during the courting process to secure a new partner.
According to the research, men send an average of 517 Facebook messages and tweets in an effort to land a potential partner compared to just 386 for women.
The survey found that 36 percent of respondents have broken off a relationship with a phone call, while 27 percent have ended it with a text and 13 percent called things off using social media.
